The Breathtaking Nature of the Urban Explosion The focus of this laboratory based lesson is to complete students' understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system. The absorption of oxygen and release of carbon dioxide will be analyzed using a computer to monitor the respiratory rate of a student, the effect of holding of breath on the respiratory cycle, the effect of re-breathing air within the respiratory cycle, and finally to evaluate how internal O2 and CO2 concentrations influence breathing patterns.
