Breaking the Mold

Using the Video in Your Classroom

Before Watching the Drama...

  • Preview the tape to see how you can best use it as a resource in your science or health classes.
  • Have students create an EnviroMysteries journal for taking notes about the video, collecting data from follow-up lesson experiments, and recording observations about the quality of indoor air at home and at school.
  • Consider starting a bulletin board where students can post magazine and newspaper reports related to indoor air pollution, asthma, toxic mold, etc. Jumpstart the news board with several current stories you find, such as this report from CBS News about one school's mold problem that was causing kids to get sick.
  • Encourage students to ask you to pause the tape at any point if they need clarification on a detail.
